Transparent PalmOS keyguard (for free) V: 1.4

Let me first point you to another software which I’ve recently updated: 2LaunchMe 2.4

Why? Well, first I’m glad if you would buy any of my other apps if you by any chance like the Nexave keyguard. But why 2LaunchMe? If you have a Treo or Centro you will get a nice hot-key application, desktop accessory or preference panel launcher. You may also put any MyKbd (a nice application for Alex Pruss) Macro on a key and have even more complex tasks right on a finger tip. Or you want to monitor your online traffic or online time. 2LaunchMe could do it for you. Another cool stuff is the possibility to call any number from any active field on the screen: using the mostly unused green button on your smartphone, 2LaunchMe will try to determine the number under the cursor or, if it doesn’t work, grab what ever you have in your clipboard and present it to you in a way so you can edit it, call it or send a short message to the number. Check it out: pdassi or mtdn

But now back to the transparent keyguard with the slide effect: Version 1.4 is here. What’s new? Mainly it now works also with the 5 seconds or 30 seconds settings. I’ve also added a slider to adjust the timeout time if you like to have more time to read for example the next day’s weather. You can get it from the usual place: http://www.metaviewsoft.de/PUM-2008/

And look here, from PalmAddicts presents Nexave on his phone.

Have a nice weekend,
Henk

Free sliding keyguard: Nexave 1.3g

Another minor update for the free, sliding and transparent keyguard replacement, called Nexave. I basically added support for kMeteo for weather data and improved the screen density handling to fix screen distortions  (alerts are drawn in high resolution coordinates) which could happen in few situations. Go to the official page at http://www.metaviewsoft.de/PUM-2008/ to grab it.

And now to something different:

2PlayMe, Nexave and prc-tools

I thought it might be a good idea to release the next update for 2PlayMe which is still unfinished here for a public beta test. I’ve added support for Alex Pruss’ MyKbd Macros (Specials->MyKbd), a possibility to cycle to a given SIM card (for dual-SIM users), Keyguard On for 5s or 30s (as you can select it in the prefs) and an holiday field for the weekday selection. The SIM card cycling and the holiday field doesn’t work correctly yet. What should work is the feature that 2PlayMe can control the Nexave keyguard also on a non-phone device (like a TX).

Therefore I also release a new Nexave keyguard update. Just as a small reminder: The Nexave keyguard is a free transparent keyguard replacement which is full of additional infos (not only current time and date). It can by wiped away (downwards) or be dismissed using the 5-way navigation. In connection with 2LaunchMe it shows the traffic for the current open data connection. If you have 4Cast installed, it will show you the weather forecast for today, tomorrow or a 3 day forecast. Additional there is a today/tomorrow setting, which shows today’s weather until midday when it will show tomorrow’s weather.

And now to something different:
It just came to my attention that cygwin.com recently change there setup.exe and added a security feature. Every index file needs o be secured by a .sig file. The new setup.exe will verify the index file using this .sig fil and a public key inside the setup.exe. Unfortunately, the prc-tools mirror doesn’t provide the necessary .sig file yet. If you like me, doesn’t keep an old setup.exe you may have difficulties to install the prc-tools on your Windows computer.

But in http://www.cygwin.com/ml/cygwin-announce/2008-08/msg00001.html there is a solution: add the -X flag to the current setup.exe and it will also read from the prc-tools mirror:

2) Tell your users to supply the new -X (–no-verify) command-line flag when using setup.exe to download from your mirror. This can be added into the command-line invocation in a Windows shortcut, for convenience.

Regards
Henk

Palm: Give us the Treo Pro with Palm OS!

Palm just announced the Treo Pro and it looks very nice. It has Wifi, GPS, a sleek design, a fast processor, a slot for micro SD cards, a standard USB connector and even a 3.5 stereo headset jack. Wow, it looks damned cool, but it only comes with Windows Mobile. How sad, how sad. Why should one buy a Palm with Windows Mobile? A Palm becomes a Palm because of the Palm OS.

Please Palm, please, bring us the Treo Pro with Palm OS. The build-in GPS shouldn’t be a problem. If the combination of Wifi doesn’t work together with radio based data connection in Palm OS, switch of the radio when one enables WiFi. Who cares? Release it as the high-end device for anyone who wants to spend more than a Centro. Release it with Garnet and then take any time it needs to develop Nova.

[EDIT:] Read the comments here on the official blog (http://www.typepad.com/t/trackback/2141210/32563880) of Palm presenting the Treo Pro, I’m not alone, many, many users want this with Palm OS. Palm please do us the favor…

And btw. it wouldn’t be a bad idea to spend the 20 cents to add a cover for the camera lens…

Transparent PalmOS keyguard (for free)

Some may know about my free transparent PalmOS keyguard with the nice wipe effect, called Nexave. Shimon the developer of 4cast added a line of the current weather forecast into the latest Nexave version. You need 4cast installed. I’ve picked it up and finally added a field to display the current traffic in Nexave if you have the latest 2LaunchMe installed on your device.

I’ve also added an indicator to show if you have unconditional forwarding in your phone enabled. So you have: Loud, Mute, Fwrd.

On request I’ve added the possibility to dismiss the keyguard with center + opt or page down + opt.

Grab it from the download page or directly here (with source).

And a small hint at the end: Are you looking for cool Software for your new Centro Smartphone or your (a bit older) Treo with Palm OS? Look here, they have several great titles reduced (2Cool4U is one of them). It’s only this week – hurry up.

cu, Henk
